OVERVIEW

Reverse osmosis is a desalting technology which is widely used for the preparation of high-purity water at present, and is used for separating organic matters in water with ion and molecular weight up to several hundred. Reverse osmosis (RO), ultrafiltration (UF), micro-porous membrane filtration (MF) and electrodialysis (ED) technology are classified into membrane separation technology.

Reverse osmosis water treatment has following advantages: continuous operation and stable product water quality; water regeneration not by using acid-alkali; no shutdown for regeneration; saving of back-flushing and cleaning water; generation of ultrapure water in a high yield (with a productivity up to 95%); no wastewater regeneration; no acid-alkali storage, dilution and transport facility; reduced workshop building area; safe and reliable use, no contact with acid and alkali for workers; reduced operation and maintenance cost; simple installation and low installation expense.

In recent 30 years, reverse osmosis, electrodialysis, ultrafiltration and membrane filtration have been applied in the industry, and are rapidly developed. In semi-conductor and integrated circuit manufacturing process, food and pharmaceutical industry, reverse osmosis is generally used foe desalting during preparation of high-pure water; ultrafiltration is mostly used for post-treatment of the water preparation system; membrane filtration is used for water pretreatment and post-treatment as well as particle and bacteria filtration.
